About Tanglewood Exploration, LLC
 
Overview
Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Tanglewood Exploration, LLC was formed in September 2006, by Mr. Tom L. Scott and Mr. Randy Wolsey to combine their deep and unique experience and relationships to capitalize on unconventional shale gas opportunities. The primary mission of Tanglewood Exploration, LLC is to build a shale gas company comprised of industry experts to acquire and develop profitable shale gas properties in North America.
Mr. Tom L. Scott, General Manager, has over 30 years of oil and gas experience in leasing and development, principally within the Anadarko Basin and North Texas regions. Since 2002, Mr. Scott has leased in excess of 100,000 acres within the Fort Worth Basin, principally as an agent to and partner with several notable oil and gas companies including EOG, XTO, and Republic Energy. Mr. Randy Wolsey, Operations Manager, has over 35 years of experience in field operations and drilling. He has drilled in excess of 85 wells within the Barnett Shale play on behalf of Chief Oil & Gas as a contract-drilling supervisor.
Mr. Scott and Mr. Wolsey have assembled a notable team of technical consultants to support Tanglewood’s development program:
  • Mr. Dan Steward, geological consultant, formerly with Mitchell Energy and currently with Republic Energy;
  • Mr. Nick Steinsberger, drilling and engineering consultant, formerly with Mitchell Energy, Devon Energy and currently with Republic Energy.
Additionally, Mr. Scott and Mr. Wolsey enjoy strong relationships with other quality service providers throughout the oil and gas industry.
 
Management and Technical Team
Mr. Tom L. Scott, General Manager – Land & Administration
Mr. Scott has over 30 years of experience within the oil and gas industry, 28 years of which as an independent landman. For approximately 26 years, Mr. Scott concentrated his efforts within the Anadarko Basin, where he provided lease and title services to approximately 25 small to large independent exploration companies. In the mid to late 1980’s, Scott employed two exploration geologists to generate prospects within the Anadarko Basin and participated in several exploratory ventures, which discovered and developed over 200 BCF of gas. For the last 8 years, Mr. Scott has focused his efforts within the Fort Worth Basin, where he has purchased in excess of 100,000 acres. The Company’s team has extensive land, geological and operational expertise in the unconventional resource arena and has worked with and alongside the likes of industry leaders such as Mitchell/Devon, EOG, XTO, Chief, and Consol Energy/CNX Gas. Mr. Scott graduated from Texas A&M University.
Mr. Randy L. Wolsey, Manager – Drilling and Operations.
Mr. Wolsey has approximately 35 years of experience within the oil and gas industry. Mr. Wolsey drilled over 85 Barnett Shale wells where he managed all phases of drilling and completion, as drilling supervisor. Mr. Wolsey has extensive personal and professional relationships within the industry. Mr. Wolsey earned a degree in Political Science from Midwestern University.
Jeffrey R. Scott, Manager – Appalachian Operations
Mr. Scott has over 8 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Scott began working in the Barnett Shale acquiring oil and gas properties and leases in 2002 while attending Texas Christian University. Upon graduating from Texas Christian University in 2004, Mr. Scott continued working in the Barnett Shale for TLS Oil & Gas Properties, Inc. During the time period between 2004-2007, Mr. Scott managed daily office operations and acquired over 35,000 acres in the Barnett Shale. Beginning in 2008, Mr. Scott joined Tanglewood Exploration, LLC and became involved in the company’s Appalachian operations. In June 2010, Mr. Scott relocated to Pennsylvania to manage the Waynesburg office. Mr. Scott’s involvement to date has played a major part in Tanglewood’s success in the Appalachian Basin.
Mr. Richard B. Robb - Land & Administration
Mr. Robb has 28 years broad land experience in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Wyoming and Montana. Mr. Robb has extensive experience in coal, coalbed methane, oil and natural gas exploration and production. Mr. Robb has concentrated his efforts in the Appalachian Basin since 1993, as Land Manager for Consol Energy and CNX Gas both of whom are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr. Robb's past responsibilities included managing staffs of 20 plus employees, negotiating large acquisitions, training land agents, and supervising all land management functions.
 
Mr. Dan Steward – Consulting Geologist
Mr. Steward received a B.S. in Geology from the University of Houston in 1972. With 42 years of petroleum experience and 29 years working Oil & Gas Shale plays, Steward was Vice President of Geology at Mitchell Energy (later acquired by Devon Energy) where he worked on the Barnett Shale development since its inception in 1981. During the period between 1981-2001, he was at Mitchell Energy and was a member of the team responsible for recognizing, evaluating and evolving the Barnett Shale Plain in the Fort Worth Basin. During that 20-year period, he held a number of positions within the company management, but in one capacity or another was always involved in the play.

After the Company’s merger with Devon in 2002, Dan joined Republic Energy and continued his involvement with the Barnett Shale through their activities. This partnership allowed him to apply the understanding of organic shales acquired from the Barnett to other shales across the United Sates. In addition to working with Republic, Dan has worked with the principals of Tanglewood since 2002 as their geological consultant.

In 2005, Dan was asked to write a history of the evolution of the Barnett play by George P. Mitchell. This history has been published. In addition to this honor Dan was also recently selected by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists for their 2007 Explorer of the Year Award for his role in establishing the Barnett as one of the largest gas producing fields in the country.
Mr. Nick Steinsberger, Consulting Drilling Engineer
Mr. Nick Steinsberger has 17 years of experience in drilling and completion operations. Mr. Steinsberger was Staff Engineer for Mitchell Energy/Devon Energy where he supervised the completions and operations of a 14-rig drilling program and a 140 well per year re-stimulation and workover program. Mr. Steinsberger has completed over 1,000 wells in the Barnett Shale with Mitchell/Devon. He was the Horizontal Team Leader responsible for completing the first 25 horizontal wells in the Barnett Shale and the first to recommend and try water fracs in the Barnett Shale, which changed the field from a marginal play to the largest gas field in Texas. Mr. Steinsberger subsequently was employed by Progress Energy and Republic Energy Drilling where he completed 48 horizontal wells in the Barnett Shale. Mr. Steinsberger earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin.
Mr. Patrick Gavaghan, Environmental Consultant
Mr. Gavaghan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and fisheries management in 1986 from the Pennsylvania State University. After briefly working as a biologist at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh, where he pursued a Ph.D. in Aquatic Ecology. In 1993, Mr. Gavaghan founded Ecotune Environmental Consultants. Ecotune works closely with its clients and engineering firms to obtain environmental impact permits at the state and federal level. Since 1993, Ecotune has performed assessments of more than 1,800 sites ranging in size from two to 5,300 acres.
